Workshop Guidelines
CONFIDENTIALITY A covenant of confidentiality, so that safety and trust are ensured is critical. This means that all that goes on in group, who is in group, what people do, what is talked about stays in the group and is not discussed outside the session with either participants or non-participants. In addition, it is helpful to be brief if you elect to share your own work with your spouse or close friend. Such sharing tends to diminish the potency or your work.
CHECK-INS Check-ins need to be responsibly brief so we can devote enough time to expressive work.
THERAPEUTIC WORK Participants will have the opportunity to work publicly or privately. Since one’s own issues can get touched when someone else works, the processing time helps to make sense of one’s experiences, even when they are not the active worker. It is not a requirement to work actively, all work is invitational. It is each member’s responsibility to claim time to work. This may, in itself, be a therapeutic issue for some members.
GROUP RELATIONS Group interaction and the development of relationships is a major part of the personal therapy as each member explores issues of trust, intimacy, boundaries, respect, support and empowerment. This is not individual therapy done in a group context. Rather, it is working on issues and wounds that occur in relationships. Forming deep friendships can be a valuable aspect of this experience. However, extending intimacy into shutting out other group members or into sexual acting out can complicate and hurt the group and individuals. Such issues of intimacy need to be addressed in the group.
PERSONAL IMPAIRMENT Use of drugs, alcohol, highly destructive behavior, or engaging in activity that would prevent one from being present in the group is unacceptable.
Personal safety To insure absolute safety in the group, and physical violence or verbal threats will not be tolerated. More appropriate methods of expressing anger will be explored.
PAYMENT Fees are expected to be paid in full seven days prior to the workshop.
PERSONAL CONTRACT I have read and fully understand and I agree to abide and support the contractual commitments outlined in these group guidelines.
